Whaling and Hitchcock on Tap This Week

A book discussion about "In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex" and a showing of the film "Hitchcock" are planned in Bedford this week.

A book discussion about the real life adventures of the inspiration for “Moby Dick” and a film about Alfred Hitchcock are scheduled this week in Bedford:

The Council on Aging will host a book discussion about “In The Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex” at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. In 1819, the vessel left Nantucket with 20 crew members headed the South Pacific. A sperm whale rammed the boat and sunk the vessel, but the story doesn’t end there as the crew spent the next 90 days fighting for survival.

The Bedford Free Public Library will show the 2012 film “Hitchcock” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the film giant and Helen Mirren. The film is rated PG-13.
