African Food and Peace Foundation Announces New Executive Director

Concord, Mass. – April 7th, 2014 – The board of the African Food and Peace Foundation (AFPF), is pleased to announce that Julia Pettengill has been appointed to the position of Executive Director. She follows Martha Dolben, a Concord resident, who served as volunteer Executive Director for 17 years.

Dolben will continue as Chair of the Board. “It has been my honor to have served AFPF as Executive Director for the past 17 years, and I am delighted now to be succeeded by Julia Pettengill. She is the absolute right person to lead AFPF forward. In my continuing role as Chair of the Board, I pledge my full support to Julia and the AFPF team.”

In her previous role as Director of Development, Pettengill was key to AFPF’s growth over the last four years. She helped to grow the AFPF staff, established an internship program, expanded the base of supporters and donors by over 35%, and increased revenue by over 11% from 2012 to 2013.

Raised in Zambia, Zimbabwe and later studying in South Africa, as the daughter of German aid and development workers, Pettengill has a very personal connection to AFPF’s mission. Before joining AFPF in 2010, she served as a research consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and for the German Development Organization (GIZ).

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to work with such a talented and committed team at AFPF, both at the staff and board level” Julia said. “I am inspired and energized by the incredible individuals, donors and organizations I have the opportunity to interact with and serve every day. We can't wait to see where we can take AFPF together in supporting sustainable change and community driven development at Uganda Rural Development and Training Program and African Rural University for women!"
