Bedford Physician Dr. Toby Nathan is honored by Middlesex Central District Medical Society as 2014 Community Clinician of the Year

Waltham – April 24 – Bedford physician Toby Nathan, M.D. has been honored by her peers of the Middlesex Central District Medical Society as the district’s 2014 Community Clinician of the Year, an honor recognizing her contributions and professionalism as a physician. She will receive the award April 29 at the district’s annual meeting at Emerson Hospital.

 

Board certified in pediatric medicine, Dr. Nathan practices pediatric and adolescent medicine in Bedford, where she established her private medical practice in 1982. A graduate of Barnard College in New York City, she earned her medical degree from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1972. She completed her pediatric residency and internship at Boston City Hospital (now Boston Medical Center) and completed a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital from 1975-1977.

Dr. Nathan has served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Emerson Hospital and has served on the board of directors of the Independent Physicians Association and Physician Hospital Organization at Emerson. She has been the School Physician for the Bedford School department for 15 years.  She resides in Concord.

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community and who stands out as a leading caregiver. The Middlesex Central District is comprised of nearly 300 physicians who live and work in nine communities in central Middlesex County. 

               

The Massachusetts Medical Society, with more than 24,000 physicians and student members, is dedicated to educating and advocating for the patients and physicians of Massachusetts. The Society, under the auspices of NEJM Group, publishes the New England Journal of Medicine, a leading global medical journal and web site, and NEJM Journal Watch alerts and publications covering 13 specialties. The Society is also a leader in continuing medical education for health care professionals throughout Massachusetts, conducting a variety of medical education programs for physicians and health care professionals. Founded in 1781, MMS is the oldest continuously operating medical society in the country.
