1. Fracking the Farmland

Why Go: Sociologist and organic farmer Stephen Cleghorn, who runs a Pennsylvania farm and goat dairy targeted for drilling for natural gas, will speak about fracking, how it affects the surrounding area and communities and all living beings. The event is hosted by the Environmental Leadership Team at First Parish and cosponsored by ConcordCAN.

2. Turning Mill and Estabrook School: A Retrospective
Where/When: Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square, Lexington; 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1
Why Go: This lecture by Anne Grady, architectural historian, and Sally Zimmerman, preservation expert, is a part of the Lexington Historical Society’s continuing series of programs on Lexington’s Mid-Century Modern Heritage.

3. Verrill Farm February Pancake Breakfast
Where/When: Verrill Farm, 11 Wheeler Rd #A, Concord; 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2
Why Go: Verrill Farm kicks off February with the second of its popular winter Pancake Breakfasts. Stop by for a hearty breakfast served in the heated greenhouse before or after morning activites and errands--no reservations necessary. Everyone who attends the February Pancake Breakfast is eligible to enter a drawing for Verrill Farm’s Valentine’s Dinner for Two, an $80 value.

4. Belmont Savings Bank Announces Free Children’s Concert
Where/When: Waltham YMCA, 725 Lexington St, Waltham; 3 p.m, Saturday, Feb. 2
Why Go: Because it's a a free children’s concert featuring Karen K & the Jitterbugs and, as part of their Big Ol’ Truck Pre-release concert, there will be a meet and greet with the band.

Why Go: The latest in the Munroe Saturday Nights series, award-winning director, playwright and actress Melinda Lopez will direct Deirdre Girard’s new play, “Widow’s Walk,” featuring a professional cast appearing courtesy of Actors Equity Association.
