Obituary: Former NHL Player Doug “Diesel” Mohns

Douglas A. Mohns, who played 22 years in the National Hockey League and spent half of his career with the Boston Bruins, died on Feb. 7, 2014.

Mohns, of Bedford, was nicknamed “Diesel” during his playing days, in which he scored 248 goals with 462 assists for 710 points in 1,390 NHL games. Known for his grit, Mohns also compiled 1,250 penalty minutes during his NHL career, which stretched from 1953-1975.

His best scoring year was with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1966-67 when he scored 25 goals and 35 assists for 60 points.

He was husband of Tabor Ansin Mohns (Tinney), father of Douglas A. Mohns Jr., and his wife Sharon of Hanover and Andrea J. Brillaud and her husband Paul of North Andover. He was stepfather of Greg Ansin of South Boston and Lisa Ansin and her husband Jonathan Guttel of Austin, TX. He was also survived by nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Alexander, Victoria, Andrew, Barret, Jack, Tyler and Cameron.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane B. Mohns.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St., Lexington. Visiting hours from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington.
