BPD Run Donation Drive to Benefit Sandy Victims

Anyone interested in donating food or clothing to Sandy's victims on Staten Island can drop donations off at the BPD until 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Members of the Bedford Police Department have been accepting donations of food, clothing and anything else victims of Hurricane Sandy might need in the storm's aftermath.

Along with the Bedford Fire Department and former BPD Emergency Communications Officer Dan Carroll, BPD will accept donations until Thursday at 10 p.m. in the lobby of BPD and at the side entrance of BFP until 7:30 p.m.

Carroll and other BPD officers will drive the donations down to the New York Police Department's 122nd Precinct on Staten Island Friday morning.

Bedford Police officials have reached out to local business such as Whole Foods Markets and Stop and Shop, as well as Bedford residents for donations of food, clothing and even kids toys for those in New York displaced from their homes as a result of Sandy.

"My whole garage has been loaded with stuff since we've started accepting donations," Carroll said.

Carroll said there are still items that BPD is looking for to be able to provide to Sandy's victims in New York, including any winter clothes, pet food and children's toys.

"People forget about the animals, and that these kids are living in shelters without any of their toys," Carroll said. "At this point in time any donations are still welcome."

Donations for Sandy's victims in New York can be made at the Bedford Police Department until 10 p.m. Nov. 8 or at the Bedford Fire Department until 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
