What Do You Think About Bedford’s Ranking in the Best Schools List?

Boston Magazine released the list, which shows Bedford schools ranked in 36th place.

The Bedford Public Schools ranked 36th in the Boston Magazine Best Schools list in the September 2013 issue.

Weston ranked behind the top 10 of:

  1. Dover
  2. Sherborn
  3. Lexington
  4. Carlisle
  5. Boxborough
  6. Concord
  7. Lincoln
  8. Westford
  9. Wayland
  10. Wellesley

According to Boston Magazine, Bedford had the lowest average class size (15.5) out of the Top 50 schools.

Other statistics reported by the magazine include:

  • Graduation rate – 94 percent
  • Percent going to college – 85.4 percent
  • Per pupil expenditures -- $16,963
  • Percentage scoring 3-5 on AP exams – 92.6 percent

“To assemble this year’s Best Schools list, we spent months compiling numbers—released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education—from 147 municipalities in Greater Boston.

"The schools in the cities and towns that topped our proprietary ranking stood out across 20 different categories, including student-to-teacher ratio, average class size, expenditures per pupil, rate of college matriculation, and results on tests such as the SAT and the MCAS.”
