Bedford Police Officer, Firefighters Deliver Baby at Bonnievale Drive Home

The baby girl was born early Monday morning.

A Bedford Police officer and four firefighters delivered a baby girl at a Bonnievale Drive home in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Officer Jon Busa and the firefighters, including his brother Matt Busa, responded to the home shortly after midnight for a report of a woman in labor, according to the departments. They delivered the baby in a bathroom just minutes after they arrived. Paramedics arrived less than seven minutes later and took mother and daughter to a local hospital, where they were said to be doing well.

Bedford Fire Lt. Scott Ricker, firefighters Nick Anderson, Mark Daly and Mark Radwich and Police Sgts. Richard Vitale and Jeffrey Wardwell were also at the scene.

“I can’t believe how quickly it happened,” said Ricker, the ranking officer at the scene. “We got there, the mother pushed and there she was. It was a pretty unbelievable experience.

“The baby let out a healthy cry, then we wrapped her up, and it was all pretty calm and peaceful, considering what had just happened.”
